Park Side: Corona’s Grand Table for Half a Century

Every borough has one restaurant where engagements are announced, milestone birthdays booked and Sunday dinners treated as ritual. In Queens, that table has long stood in Corona: Park Side, where the waiters wear tuxedos, the tablecloths are blindingly white and southern Italian classics arrive on platters built for sharing.

A Family Legend

The story starts in 1960, when the Federici family ran a supper club on this corner; in 1980 it became Park Side and never looked back, expanding from a seven-table room into a many-roomed institution. The restaurant takes its name from William F. Moore Park just outside — a square the founding family personally helped bring back to life, planting the restaurant at the heart of Corona’s civic pride.

On the Plate

The repertoire is the great Italian-American songbook sung properly: eggplant parmigiana, veal spiedini, fettuccine alfredo, chicken and veal piccata, and a seafood list — swordfish above all — that regulars consider the sleeper strength. Desserts keep the old ways too: pistachio tartufo, a bright lemon tart and serious espresso.

The Space

Dining rooms dressed in marble, mahogany and Roman statuary flow one into the next; the garden room, green with potted trees and framed by windows onto more foliage, is where proposals seem to happen. Service is formal, warm and choreographed — coats taken, chairs pulled, valet waiting outside.

Who It’s For

Families marking anniversaries, couples who want an occasion rather than a meal, and anyone hosting out-of-town guests who needs to show them what a classic New York Italian institution actually feels like.

Good to Know

How far ahead should I book? A few days for weeknights, longer for weekend evenings — the garden room goes fastest.

Is it suitable for a family event? Ideal; the layout of separate rooms handles multi-generational tables gracefully.

What should I wear? Smart attire fits the mood; jackets are common though not required.

Is there anything for vegetarians? Yes — eggplant parmigiana, pastas and substantial salads make a full meat-free dinner.

Do they take card payments? Yes, major cards are accepted; the valet makes arriving by car painless.
