Holy Schnitzel: The Family Answer to “What’s for Dinner?”

In Kew Gardens Hills, one of Queens’ great kosher neighborhoods, Holy Schnitzel has become the default answer to a universal question. Hand-breaded cutlets, burgers stacked without restraint and a wall of house-made sauces make it the rare fast-casual spot that pleases picky kids, hungry teenagers and nostalgic parents in a single order.

The Concept

What started as a New York schnitzel shop grew into a kosher franchise with locations across three states — and a simple house rule that never changed: every schnitzel is breaded by hand when ordered and fried to golden crispness, never held under a lamp. More than twenty-five sauces, all made in-house, let every family member customize without negotiation.

On the Menu

The Kung Fu Schnitzel — sesame-panko chicken in a baguette — leads the hit parade, trailed by the Shwanitzel wrap, an unapologetic union of shawarma, schnitzel and fries. The Tony Special layers marinated grilled chicken with garlic, jalapeño and spicy mayos, while the Double Decker burger and the pastrami-topped burger handle the beef side of the family. Fries and salads round out the tray.

The Space

Bright, casual and built for speed: order at the counter, grab a table or take the bag home. It is the kind of room where soccer teams debrief and Sunday errands end — comfortable, unfancy, always moving.

Who It’s For

Kosher-keeping families who want weeknight dinner solved, groups with wildly different tastes, and anyone who believes comfort food should come with a crunch.

Good to Know

Is everything kosher? Yes — fully kosher-supervised, all-meat menu; observant diners can order freely.

What are the Shabbat hours? Closed from Friday afternoon through Saturday sundown, reopening for the post-Shabbat rush.

What should first-timers try? A classic schnitzel baguette with two or three different sauces — then branch out to the Shwanitzel.

Is it good for feeding a crowd? Very — family platters and catering-scale orders are routine here.

Can kids find something plain? Easily: plain schnitzel, fries and mild sauces keep young diners happy.

Joshua was super cool, working with many customers at once, remembering every name and different personal requests. He's simply a holy manager, because he makes such super holy and tasty snacks!!

I ordered a tasty vegetable roll on a whole-grain wrap. The not-so-secret ingredient was eggplant. It was a delicious lunch. I'm sure you'll enjoy whatever you order here. The food quality was excellent, and the menu had…

I tried the Holy Schnitzel, and it was really tasty. The fries with BBQ brisket were wonderful, and the chicken wings were absolutely fire. Everything tasted fresh, and the portions were solid. Definitely a place I'd com…

The food is decent, but I didn't really like it, and there are better options. A note on the service: there are no napkins on the tables. The place seems largely geared towards families with children, so I'd only recomme…

I don’t even know where to begin with how disappointing this experience was. Holy Schnitzel had one job; to make a decent schnitzel and somehow managed to fail on every single level.
The food arrived lukewarm at best, wi…
