The family then chose to relocate to Minnesota. The girl also went to school there.

Marriage

In 2001, Kara got married. Her husband was fellow runner and American Olympian Adam Goucher. The couple had a son in 2010.

Achievement of success

When it comes to Kara’s sporting career, she achieved success for the first time in 2000. Then she won the NCAA championship, covering distances of three and five thousand meters.

The girl was then named NCAA cross-country champion. She also made it to the Olympic finals.

Later, in 2001, Kara was honored with the Honda Sports Award. She became the best athlete among the students.

In the same year, 2001, the athlete officially graduated from the University of Colorado.

Injuries

It’s worth noting that Kara has dealt with major injuries on multiple occasions throughout her athletic career. However, she was able to fully recover and return to the sport in 2006.

As a result, she competed in the USATF championship that same year. Although she finished second.

After that, she surprised everyone with her personal record, covering all international distances. She ran the World “A” Standard in distances of one and a half thousand, five thousand and ten thousand meters.

Excellent performance

When the IAAF World Championship was held in 2006, Kara managed to finish third, covering a distance of three thousand meters. Then she set a new personal record.

After all, her results at a distance of three thousand meters became the best in the whole country. Kara became the fastest American of all time in the time it took her to run ten thousand meters.

Record holder

In the women’s 10,000-meter run at the 2007 IAAF Championship in Japan, Kara was lucky to take home a silver medal.

In the fall of 2007, the athlete won the Great North Run. Then she ran the fastest in the women’s half-marathon. This provided her with the opportunity to set a new record.

Major events

In 2008, Kara started the year with a victory at the renowned Millrose Games. It set a new personal best for her. Kara also attempted to break the world record for 5000 meters during the Prefontaine Classic track and field competition in 2008. But, regrettably, she only managed to take third place.

New victories

On June 27, 2008, the athlete qualified for the USATF Championship. She was also invited to the Olympic Trials at the same time. Kara ran five and ten thousand meter distances throughout these contests.

The championship took place in Oregon. Despite the fact that Kara was already an Olympic “A” standard athlete, she managed to earn it again. This was attributed to Goucher’s outstanding performance over a ten thousand-meter run. She was therefore able to get second place.

Kara won the semifinal tournament with a distance of 5,000 meters. Goucher’s final likewise ended in a triumph.

Olympics

Kara was also fortunate enough to compete in the final of the Summer Olympics in Beijing in 2008.
